A case of ‘nanlaban’ where the suspect lives: Man who drew gun at cops face charges
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—-In a case of nanlaban (fought back) that didn’t end in a killing, a man is facing criminal charges for drawing a gun as a police team was arresting his brother and a friend here on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Maj. Silvestre Asiong Jr., Bukidnon police spokesperson, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, said officers would file charges of direct assault, attempted homicide and illegal possession of firearms against Jerwel Adorable, 22.
Adorable, according to Asiong, interfered when police were arresting his brother Jovel and Jovel’s companion, Jason Pana at a village in the town of Quezon. Police were serving a warrant of arrest on Jovel for murder and another warrant for frustrated homicide on Pana.
Asiong said the two wanted men fled when they saw policemen but Jerwel, who was not being arrested, confronted the law enforcers and drew a .45 caliber pistol.
Police shot Jerwel in the arm to immobilize him and rushed him to a hospital.
Asiong said police are now checking if Jerwel has a criminal record. He added that police were also investigating if Jerwel, Jason and Jovel were guns for hire.
