Creative B.C. has announced a new $800,000 funding partnership to support B.C.-based documentary filmmakers.

The funding will roll out over two years beginning in January and is the result of a matching partnership between the B.C. film organization and telecommunications giant Rogers.

The money will go toward B.C.-based filmmakers working on documentary and factual projects still in the early development stage, that are not yet greenlit. Priority will be given to filmmakers from equity-seeking groups and diverse backgrounds.

Fund recipients will also have the opportunity to partner with the Knowledge Network and the National Film Board.

“When we support B.C. film and TV producers we create jobs and opportunities for people in our communities,” said Culture Minister Lisa Beare.

“I’m proud of our provincial agency, Creative B.C., for launching this groundbreaking new fund to make sure B.C. documentary and factual content creators get the help they need to bring their stories to life.”

More information about the fund and application criteria will be released in December through Creative B.C.
