PNPA looking at possible case of hazing on hospitalized cadet

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) is looking at whether a freshman cadet who was rushed to a hospital after he complained of stomach pains was a victim of hazing, nearly two months since the death of Cadet 4th Class Darwin Dormitorio due to maltreatment at the Philippine Military Academy.

Cadet 4th Class John Desiderio was rushed to the PNPA dispensary in the morning of October 29. Upon the advice of a doctor, he was then sent to the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame, but was also later transferred to East Avenue Medical Center in Quezon City.

“It could be a possible case of maltreatment but we are awaiting still for the statement of the cadet to confirm thoroughly once he will be back at the PNPA,” said Lt. Col. Byron Allatog, PNPA spokesperson.

Allatog said Desiderio is now in good condition but has yet to be discharged from the hospital as of Friday afternoon.
