COOLER winds are expected ahead as the state-run weather bureau declares the entry of the northeast monsoon or amihan to usher in the start of the Christmas season in the country.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Administrator Vicente Malano said that “strong to gale force northeasterly winds have prevailed over the seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the strengthening of the high pressure system over Siberia for the past few days.”
In a statement on Friday, Malano said one of the “meteorological conditions” was the “gradual cooling of the surface air temperature over the Northeastern part of Luzon.”
“With these developments, the northeast wind flow is expected to become dominant over most parts of the country, bringing cold and dry air. Surges of cold temperatures may also be expected in the coming days to months,” Malano said. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
