1 killed, 2 hurt, 783 families homeless in Navotas fire

MANILA, Philippines — One person died while two others were injured in a fire that left 783 families homeless in in Market 3 of the Navotas Fishport in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North on Friday.

Report from Navotas police said the fatality was identified as James Bantasan, 24, while two other victims were identified as Mercy Abero and Lester Razon sustained minor injuries.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire broke out in an area with houses made of light materials around 2:30 a.m. The fire quickly reached the fifth alarm and was only put out at 6:11 a.m. Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said they had provided survivors with their immediate needs, hot meals, relief goods, sleeping packs, hygiene kits and temporary shelter.
