Power supply back to normal in Mindanao – DoE

THE power situation in Mindanao is back to normal after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of the region on Wednesday night, the Department of Energy (DoE) reported.

In a message to reporters on Thursday, the agency said electricity services of Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative Inc. (Doreco), Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative Inc. (Dasureco), Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc. (Daneco), Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco), South Cotabato 1 Electric Cooperative Inc. (Socoteco I), and Socoteco II have resumed.

The Cotabato Electric Cooperative, Inc.- PPALMA (COTELCO-PPALMA) did not experience any power interruption.

The Mindanao Geothermal Power Plant (MGPP) 1 and 2, with a total net generation of 91 megawatts (MW), tripped at 7:37 p.m. MGPP Unit 2 has been restored today, Thursday, at 3:13 a.m. while MGPP Unit 1 is expected to resume normal operations at 10 a.m.

The region’s transmission backbone remains intact, the DoE added.

There is also no damage to both upstream and downstream oil facilities. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
