BAGUIO CITY: Security was tightened at Baguio City Hall this October because of the alleged death threats being received by Mayor Benjamin Magalong, as a result of his testimony on the alleged police involvement in the drug reselling scheme during the Senate hearing on the Good Conduct Time Allowance of the Bureau of Corrections.
City administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said this was just a precautionary measure to prevent any spillover effect of the threats on the Mayor.
“As the Mayor himself disclosed, a lot of people are now threatening his life and it may also have an effect on our institution he being the Mayor. That’s why as our response, we deemed it best to also adopt some measures to secure our place of work, our employees and the public,” he said.
Dela Peña said the Interlink Security Agency, which is manning City Hall and its premises, immediately responded by imposing security checks among those entering the public building.
It also limited the entry and exit points to just three and even added canine security.
“The threat may or may not happen at all. But at the end of the day, it is the people’s protection that we are concerned with here and that is what we are prioritizing with this move,” the administrator explained.
“We beg for the public’s understanding on these current security changes which are for the benefit of all of us,” dela Peña stressed.
