Port Mann Bridge traffic up 60 per cent over five years

Traffic over the Port Mann Bridge rose roughly 60 per cent between 2014 and 2018, with its biggest spike after the B.C. government removed tolls in 2017.
In 2018, a daily average of 150,100 vehicles crossed the bridge, which connects Coquitlam and Surrey, compared to 94,000 in 2014, according to data provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure data.
Traffic volume on the Port Mann increased by 23 per cent between 2017 and 2018, after the newly-formed B.C. NDP government removed tolls from the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges on Sept. 1, 2017.
Meantime, just west of the Port Mann, daily average traffic volume at the Pattullo Bridge dropped to 61,700 in 2018, from 69,400 in 2017, according to a Global News report. The four-lane bridge linking New Westminster and Surrey had daily traffic of about 74,200 vehicles in 2014.
The 10-lane Port Mann Bridge opened to traffic in 2012, after replacing an aging bridge that opened in 1964.
