A film for millenials made by a millennial.

This is how Jason Paul Laxamana described “Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love.”

“I wrote this film finding the need to explain what our generation is about,” he said.

Apparently, he didn’t like it that millenials are being pigeonholed in a bad light.

The 32-year-old writer-director who was responsible for such critically and commercially acclaimed films as “100 Tula Para Kay Stella,” “Between Maybes,” and “Just a Stranger” opined, “Marami ka kasing maririnig about us, like we act supposedly entitled or lazy or this or that but I think just like other generations, we are many things.”

“Ang Henerasyong Sumuko sa Love” is about a barkada of five who agrees to camp by the lake overnight while witnessing a meteor slice the night sky.

They decide to meet on the same spot the following year to celebrate friendship and update one another about goings-on in their lives, not expecting surprises and challenges in their careers, among other issues.

The cast includes Jane Oineza as a vlogger who advocates women empowerment; Albie Casiño as a hopelessly romantic video editor; Myrtle Sarrosa, a promodizer who is jaded about love; Jerome Ponce as an openly gay restaurant owner; and Tony Labrusca as a guy driven to succeed no matter what.

Jane said of her character, “Maraming katulad niya sa generation naming na nakabase ang self-worth sa likes na nakukuha niya as vlogger.”

“Yeah, I think my role in the film is the same. Marami diyan na nakalimot na to enjoy the simple things doing what they’re doing. In the end, nagsisisi sila because they have missed out on so much.”

He is hoping people would watch the film so “they can get a glimpse of the millennial lifestyle and the problems that we have to deal with.”

Asked if he has given up on love like the title of the film suggests, Albie answered, “No. Masarap kaya magmahal. It’s nice to love and be loved.”

Meanwhile, Jerome related he was actually hesitant to accept his role in the film fearing he might not have what it takes to give it justice.

“Kasi marami naman tayong kaibigan na gay so ayokong mapahiya diba? That’s why nilapitan ko si Direk (Jason Paul) and told him my fear. Binago niya isip ko. Binigyan niya ako ng confidence. Sabi niya sa akin daw talaga bagay ang role so, tinaggap ko. Ayun, ha
