Police filed on Wednesday the criminal charges against 22 suspects behind the September 11 ambush of former Pangasinan governor and representative Amado Espino Jr.

Police Regional Office 1 Director Brig. Gen. Joel Orduña confirmed the filing of the cases based on the findings of Regional Special Investigation Task Group (RSTIG).

Filed were two counts of murder and four counts of frustrated murder against 12 suspects identified as Albert Palisoc, Armando Frias alias “Jong,” Benjie Resultan, Joey Ferrer, Ronnie de los Santos, Gerry Pascua, Sherwin
Diaz, Teofilo Ferrer, Jewel Castro, a certain “Ruseller,” John Paul Regalado and Alfred Pascaran.

Also included in the charge sheet were 10 unnamed individuals who allegedly were masterminds, financiers, conspirators and accessories to the murder.

The criminal case was filed before the City Prosecutors Office of San Carlos City last October 1.

“The solution of the said complex and sensational case is a great breakthrough not only for the proverbs of Pangasinan Provincial Police Office but to all Pangasinenses,” Orduña said in a statement.
On September 11 at 4:30 p.m., Espino and three others survived the ambush but killed two of their companions.

Espino’s bodyguard, Police Staff Sgt. Richard Esguerra was killed on the spot. His driver, Agapito Quizon, died in the hospital after sustaining numerous gunshot wounds.

Espino was included in the drug matrix presented by President Rodrigo Duterte on Aug. 25, 2016, only to be cleared by the President himself later.
