MMDA lifts number coding for public transport

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the number coding scheme for public utility vehicles today, Monday, amid a nationwide strike.
The MMDA made the announcement on Twitter.
Public transport groups called for the suspension of the government’s jeepney modernizarion program and protested the refusal of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to issue franchises on some of their members.
Meanwhile, several local government units also suspended classes.
The number coding scheme, which seeks to decongest traffic, bans public and private vehicles on roads on certain days of the week depending on the last number of their license plates.
