One person has been killed after an assailant fired several shots into a black Mercedes parked at a gas station at 188th and Fraser Highway in Surrey at about 6 p.m. Saturday.
The scene in the Clayton Heights neighbourhood is under investigation by Surrey RCMP.
Surrey RCMP media relations Cpl. Elenore Sturko confirmed Saturday night that the targeted incident involved one male who succumbed to injuries at the scene.
The Serious Crimes Unit and IHIT also are investigating, but Sturko said it’s too early in the investigation for any details about the victim.
“This was not random in nature — and it was in a busy area with shops and a gas station,” she said.
A large area remained blocked off at the gas station and the nearby Save On food store until late in the evening.
“This type of activity poses a serious risk — and we urge any people who have any information or who observe any suspicious behaviour to contact us.”
We are investigating a fatal shooting in the 18600 block of Fraser Highway. One male has died from his injuries. Please stand by, a news release will be issued shortly.
