Snow alert posted for some B.C. highways

Environment and Climate Change Canada has posted a snow alert for some B.C. highways, including the Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector.
The federal weather agency has posted special weather statements for several highways in the B.C. Interior, saying a cold airmass is expected to bring snow to higher elevations.

Kootenay Pass could see a significant amount of snow, the agency said, with possible accumulations of five to 15 centimetres by Saturday night.
The agency also says Rogers Pass, the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector, should see snow near the summits beginning Friday with light accumulations possible through the weekend.
Special weather statements have been posted for higher elevation highways in the B.C. Peace River, Boundary, Chilcotin, East Columbia, Elk Valley, Fort Nelson, Kootenay Lake, Muncho Lake Park, Nicola, Okanagan Valley, Shuswap, South Thompson, West Columbia, West Kootenay, and Williston regions.
Areas along the B.C.-Alberta border are expected to see snow as well, with up to 10 centimetres possible.
Meteorologists say a return to drier conditions and seasonal temperatures are expected early next week.
The alert warns that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
