From Friday, September 27 through to Sunday, September 29, 2019, join the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) in Brampton, Greater Toronto Area, for a variety of free fun activities for children. This inaugural FOLD Kids Book Fest, a festival for diverse authors and stories, brings three days of literary fun for kids.

The FOLD Kids Book Fest will kick off on Friday with a reading by local Brampton children’s author Ishta Mercurio, reading from her book Small World at the ON Early Years Centre in Brampton, followed by a ‘Snuggle Up and Read’ event with authors Danielle Daniel, Hilary Leung, Angelot Ndongmo, and Ishta Mercurio.

Saturday at the FOLD Kids Book Fest will see acclaimed children’s authors and spoken word artists Danielle Daniel, Dwayne Morgan, Debbie Ridpath Ohi, Ruth Ohi, and Kevin Sylvester participate in a series of activities at the Brampton Farmer’s Market, with workshops for children and adults interested in writing picture books held in the afternoon at Peel Art Gallery Museum & Archives (PAMA).

Saturday will close with a ‘Diversity in Children’s Literature Roundtable’ session held at PAMA.

The Sunday of the festival will see several acclaimed children’s authors participate in a showcase event at Brampton City Hall. Authors and illustrators Charlene Chua, Melanie Florence, Hilary Leung, Olive Senior, Rina Singh, and Kai Cheng Thom will take the stage alongside musician Njacko Backo and the Zoo To You Animal Show, promising entertainment and fun for all ages!

The Sunday Showcase will also feature a Community Book Fair with local community organizations and book publishers there to celebrate children’s literature.

According to the festival’s artistic director, Jael Richardson: “FOLD Kids Book Fest allows us to develop young readers by exposing them to a variety of amazing storytellers. I’m so excited to spend a whole weekend with the tiniest readers and soon-to-be writers. I can’t wait to hear all that they have to say.”
