‘Verdict’ is Philippines’ entry to Oscars 2020
MANILA, Philippines — Raymund Ribay Gutierrez’s “Verdict” is the country’s entry to the Foreign Language Film category at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or the Oscars in 2020.
The news was announced Thursday by the Film Academy of the Philippines via its official Facebook page.

“We are pleased to announce that the movie #VERDICT, produced by CenterStage Productions, has been chosen as the official Philippine Film Entry to the International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) Category for the 92nd Annual Academy Awards or The Oscars,” the film body said in its post.
“Congratulations and best of luck to the producers of the movie,” it added.
“Verdict” tells the story of Joy (Max Eigenmenn) who finally decides to file a domestic abuse case against her alcoholic husband Dante (Kristoffer King).
The film recently won the Special Jury Prize at the recently concluded 2019 Venice International Film Festival.
“Verdict” will also premiere at the upcoming 2019 Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and 2019 Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.
The 92nd Academy Awards is scheduled on February 9, 2020./ac
