Evo car share has a struck a pilot agreement with the city of Vancouver to allow its members to park Evo vehicles at metered parking spaces in Vancouver.

Evo members won’t even need to feed the meters, as the company has agreed to pick up the tab with the city.

Up until now, car share users ran the risk of being ticketed if they ended their rental in a metered parking spot.

“The addition of 10,077 metered parking options boosts mobility, convenience and affordability for Evo members beyond the hundreds of reserved parking spaces already available to them across the Lower Mainland,” Evo said in a press release.

Currently, the free metered parking pilot for Evo cars is only available in the city of Vancouver and does not include parking at meters with “no stopping” rules.

Evo, a Vancouver-based car-sharing service operated by BCAA that has more than 1,500 hybrid vehicles in its fleet, says it is the only car share provider to offer free metered parking.

As of July 23, the city of Vancouver began permitting drivers to park their car-sharing vehicle at a parking meter without cost for up to two hours. With the deal with the city, Evo’s 140,000 members do not have to worry about the two-hour limit.

“Drivers can just end their trip, walk away and Evo will take care of the charge,” said Tai Silvey, BCAA vice president of car sharing. “We will be paying the same rate as anyone else would.”

Meanwhile, Share Now, the car-share service formerly known as Car2Go, says it is still  reviewing the feasibility of allowing its members to end their trips in metered spaces.

Share Now has more than 200,000 members and a fleet of over 1,200 vehicles in Vancouver.
