Another month and another shocking public murder of a high-profile gangster that left witnesses stunned. Even Sgt. Frank Jang, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, who viewed the video of Justin Haevischer’s execution said it was disturbing and traumatizing.

Here’s my story:

A high-profile Red Scorpion whose brother was convicted in the Surrey Six murders was shot to death outside an Aldergrove fast-food restaurant Tuesday night.

Justin Lee Haevischer

Justin Lee Haevischer, 33, is believed to have been blasted by two different shooters outside the McDonald’s at 264th Street and 56th Avenue about 8 p.m.

Sgt. Frank Jang of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

And he said it was a miracle no one else had been wounded in the early evening shooting that left windows of the McDonald’s shattered.

“It is a miracle, by God’s grace, whatever language you choose to use, that nobody else was hurt from this,” Jang said.

“Shortly after peak dinner time at McDonald’s — something I think all of us can relate to having dinner with our family at a McDonald’s — and for this to happen it is unacceptable. It shows the brazenness, the recklessness of these people.”

About 30 minutes after the shooting, Abbotsford Police received a report of a an SUV burning in the 29700-block of Montesina Avenue.

“The vehicle is a black SUV and is believed to be linked to the earlier shooting. Forensic specialists will be conducting a full examination of the SUV and anyone with information is urged to contact police,” Jang said.

He did not release Haevischer’s name but said he “was known to police and had ties to gang activity. This is believed to be a targeted incident.”

Postmedia confirmed the identity of the victim through several sources.

Jang said investigators are appealing to witnesses as well as anyone with dash cam video to contact them at 1-877-551- 4448 or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

Langley RCMP Supt. Murray Power also condemned the brazen shooting that endangered community members.

“No grievance between two individuals justifies this level of risk to the community. We will provide any and all necessary support to IHIT in their investigation and continue in our collective effort with our many partners to target the ongoing gang conflict,” he said.

Postmedia has learned that Haevischer had been with a Kamloops associate and convicted trafficker named Matthew Hickson at the time of the shooting.

Haevischer’s older brother Cody was convicted, along with Red Scorpion gangster Matthew Johnston, of first-degree murder and conspiracy in the Oct. 19, 2007 slaughter of six men — including two bystanders — in a Surrey penthouse apartment.

It remains B.C.’s deadliest gangland attack. Both Cody Haevischer and Johnston are appealing their convictions.

Justin Haevischer was a regular at the Surrey Six trial. HIs black scorpion neck tattoo could be seen over his shirt collars. He was later charged with accessory to murder after the fact for assisting his brother’s former girlfriend to dispose of evidence of the murders.

In 2016, he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and was sentenced to 20 months in jail.

He admitted that he and the girlfriend were at Haevischer’s Surrey apartment when the killers returned from the Balmoral Towers carrying a bag containing cellphones and other evidence from the crime scene.

Justin and the girlfriend, who testified at the murder trial and whose name is covered by a publication ban, then took a laundry bag full of clothes and other items and burned them in a vacant lot off King George Highway after buying gas at two stations.

Justin Haevischer’s name surfaced in connection with another more recent investigation targeting some Red Scorpion drug traffickers. His brother Cody was named as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the drug ring despite being in prison.

During the investigation, police searched a suspect’s vehicle and found a bag containing heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine packaged for sale. On the passenger seat was a “black man purse” containing $4,295 bundled in elastic bands, and a money order payable to Justin Haevischer.

He is the second high-profile gangster to be murdered in just over a month in a similarly brazen attack. Hells Angel Suminder “Allie” Grewal was shot to death on Aug. 2 in a Starbucks drive-thru in south Surrey at about 9:30 a.m.

Grewal’s Hardside chapter was aligned with the Brothers Keepers gang, which is locked in a battle with a faction within the Red Scorpions. But over the last decade, the RS has also been involved in a deadly conflict with the United Nations gang across B.C.

Haevischer grew up in Nanaimo, where he has had several criminal convictions over the years. He was convicted of mischief there in 2015 and received a nine-month suspended sentence. In 2008, he got a day in jail for an assault in Nanaimo. Also in 2008, he was fined $200 for wilfully resisting a police officer.
