SEN. Richard Gordon wants prison records digitalized to ensure prompt and accurate information of the time served by a convict.
Gordon aired his proposal after Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Nicanor Faeldon announced that 1,000 inmates in penitentiaries might be released in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 10592 or the “Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.”
The law amended the provisions of the Revised Penal Code concerning the behavior of convicts. It sets the standards on the number of days that can be reduced from a prisoner’s sentence for a month.
The senator emphasized that the implementing rules and regulations of RA 10592 states that BuCor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology shall design a computer-generated template to monitor the progress of inmates who may be entitled to time allowances.
“There shall be full automation of prison records. It is important that their time served and their good conduct time allowance are properly documented and accounted. Wala dapat dayaan d’yan na kapag malakas ka sa warden, makakalibre ka (There should be no cheating even if you’re tight with the warden, you’ll be freed),” said the senator.
