RCMP have arrested a man they suspect started two fires in Kelowna on Tuesday morning.
Someone reported seeing a man attempting to set bushes on fire in an area near Leckie and Baron roads on Tuesday around 6:20 a.m.
Investigators interviewed a witness, while firefighters worked to contain the fire.
About 90 minutes later, a suspect was spotted by a patrol officer in the 1100-block KLO Road. The suspect ran away but the officer noticed smoke coming from the front entrance of the business.
“She located, removed and quickly extinguished a burning piece of material that had been placed amongst numerous propane tanks,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Thankfully no one was injured as a result of these reckless acts.”
Police set up a containment area and were able to spot a suspect a short distance away. A 26-year-old Kelowna man was arrested without incident and remains in custody.
Police expect to recommend a number of charges.
