Village chief killed in Isabela ambush

SANTO TOMAS, Isabela: Barangay Bubug’s chief Manuel Ramento, 40, was killed while two others were wounded in an ambush on Wednesday before midnight perpetrated by still unidentified suspects, according police chief Capt. Mariano Manalo. Village official May Glenn Padre, who was driving the van, was seriously injured with multiple gunshot wounds in the body. Noimi Gumtang was unharmed, but her six-year-old daughter Althea Nicole was hit by a bullet in her left foot. Police reports said the victims were on their way home from Centro village when they were ambushed by suspects positioned in a cornfield along Barangay Bagabag’s road. The victims were immediately brought to Milagros District Hospital in Cabagan town where Ramento was declared dead on arrival. Padre was still recuperating at the Cagayan Valle Medical Center in Tuguegarao City where she was transferred.
