Owner of vehicle in fatal Abbotsford hit-and-run comes forward

The registered owner of a vehicle that fled the scene after a collision that led to the death of an Abbotsford senior has come forward.
The fatal hit-and-run occurred Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. in the 32600 block of Marshall Road.
The victim, a 77-year-old South Asian man who has not been further identified, was walking on the roadway when he was struck by what police described as a newer model, SUV-type vehicle.

He was transported to hospital by air ambulance, but died of his injuries the following morning, police said.
The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and on Wednesday afternoon, police urged the individual “to do the right thing” and meet with investigators.
In an update Wednesday evening, police said the vehicle’s owner is now speaking with detectives, though they did not say whether the registered owner was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.
Detectives are also looking to speak to witnesses who stopped to help and act as interpreters at the scene, and are appealing to the public for CCTV and dash-cam footage that could help with the ongoing investigation.
