HANDCUFFCEBU CITY – The son of the Tagbilaran City, Bohol administrator was arrested for allegedly selling party drugs called ecstasy in a buy-bust operation last Saturday.

The suspect was identified as Eric John Borja, 26.

Borja, son of Tagbilaran City Administrator Eddie Borja, was arrested in a hotel on Gallares St. in Tagbilaran around 9 p.m. after a poseur-buyer was able to buy two ecstasy pills worth P1,500 each from the suspect.

The buy-bust operation was conducted by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation-Bohol and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bohol.

“We didn’t know that he is the son of the city administrator. During the two-week surveillance, the subject was only known as ‘Eric.’ We were surprised when we discovered during the arrest that he was the son of the city administrator,” Atty. Renan Oliva, head of NBI-Bohol, said.

Five more ecstasy pills were recovered from the suspect’s possession.

According to Oliva, Eric John did not resist arrest but he denied that he was a drug peddler, saying that the tablets seized from him are for personal consumption.

The suspect is facing non-bailable charges for violating Sections 5 and 11 of the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2009.

Oliva said it took them two months before the operation materialized.

“Although he became known as a party drug supplier in Bohol, it took time before he was arrested since he was very selective with his transactions. He doesn’t just sell to anyone and you have to go through a lot of people before dealing with him personally,” said Oliva.

Based on the messages in the suspect’s cellphone, his supplier of ecstasy is from Cebu. “We will conduct further investigation to identify his supplier,” said Oliva.

Oliva said the suspect’s parents were shocked to learn of their son’s arrest. “His parents are known to be good persons in Tagbilaran. They were shocked that their son was involved in selling ecstasy,” Oliva said. (Calvin D. Cordova)
