CAMP VICENTE Lim, Laguna: Calamba City Police arrested on Tuesday the primary suspect in the killing of a Grade 7 student in Laguna.
Laguna Provincial Director Col. Eleazar Matta said Renan Estrope Valderama, a 36-year-old security guard was arrested in Barangay Bucal, Calamba City at around 4 a.m.
Valderama was implicated in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Mark Anthony Miranda, inside a classroom in Castor Alviar National High School last July 4.
Valderama reportedly took care of Miranda and had been sending him to school since March, but the teenager filed a complaint of sexual and child abuse against the suspect this month.
Matta said a local resident approached a Calamba City Police mobile crew stationed at Barangay Bucal particularly in the railroad tracks of PNR about the presence of the suspect.
The responding officers chanced upon the suspect walking along the train tracks.
Recovered inside his backpack was the agency owned caliber .38 revolver with four rounds of ammunition used in the killing.
Initial investigation of the suspect revealed that in the last five days, he had been staying in the hilly portion of Barangay Masili and went to Laguna de Bay just to drink water. His hunger forced him to go down to look for food.
