Rain or Shine signed Carl Montgomery as a replacement for the injured Denzel Bowles in time for Wednesday’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup game against Magnolia at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Coach Caloy Garcia said Montgomery, who stands at 6-foot-8, already joined the Elasto Painters’ practice on Monday after Bowles was diagnosed with a medial meniscus tear and small medial collateral ligament tear on his left knee.
Bowles suffered the injury in the second quarter of Saturday’s 86-84 win over Alaska when he collided with Jeron Teng with 4:10 left in the second quarter.
Montgomery is coming off a stint with the JD Unicorns Singapore of the Malaysia Pro League.
The 30-year-old Montgomery played four US NCAA seasons with Chicago State from 2007 to 2011 before suiting up in Latvia, Belgium and Estonia. (Jonas Terrado)
