Carlo Biado and Jeff de Luna absorbed an 11-3 loss to Austria’s Mario He and Albin Ouschan in Sunday’s final of the World Cup of Pool at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England.

The Filipino tandem tied the match at 2-2 but their struggles allowed He and Ouschan to take nine of the next 10 racks to claim the top purse of $60,000 (P3.07 million).

It was also He and Ouschan’s second title in the last three years.

Biado and De Luna fell short of giving the Philippines its fourth World Cup of Pool crown and went home with the runner-up prize of $30,000 (P1.53 million).

They made their way to the final after topping the Dutch pair of Niels Feijen and Marc Bijsterbosch, 9-6, in the semifinals also held Sunday.

They opened their campaign with a 7-6 victory over the Czech Republic’s Roman Hybler and Michal Gavenjak in the opening round followed by a 7-5 triumph over Eklent Kaci and Besar Spahju.

Biado and De Luna overcame a 4-1 deficit in the quarterfinals to top Filipino-born Alex Pagulayan and John Morra of Canada, 9-5.

Dennis Orcollo and Lee Van Corteza were the last Filipino pair to rule the annual 9-ball doubles competition when they claimed the 2013 crown in London, England.

Legends Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante won twice at Wales in 2006 and Manila in 2009.
