TROPICAL depression ‘Egay’ is expected to weaken into a low pressure area (LPA) on Monday but monsoon rains will continue to prevail over parts of Luzon and the Visayas, the state-run weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Egay has slightly weakened as it moved toward the Batanes and Babuyan Islands. It was last spotted 165 kilometers east-northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, moving at a northwest direction at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour (kph) and carrying maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of 60 kph.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said that an LPA spotted 575 kilometers west of Northern Luzon is unlikely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) as it moved toward the direction of China.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was raised over Batanes and Babuyan Islands with winds of 30 kph to 60 kph. Pagasa warned fisherfolk and small seacraft against venturing out over nearby seaboards due to moderate to rough seas.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or habagat, enhanced by Egay, is expected to bring light to moderate and at times heavy monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Antique, Aklan, and western Iloilo. The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Angat Dam has increased by 1.21 meters to 159.85 meters on Monday. However, it remains below the critical level of 160 meters and still a stretch from its 210-meter normal operating level.
