Residents of Metro Manila and other parts of Western Luzon and the Visayas can expect continued rains over the weekend as a low pressure area (LPA) has already entered the Philippine area of responsibility as of 9 p.m. on Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA might develop into a tropical depression.
Pagasa weather forecaster Anna Clauren said that as of 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the LPA was spotted 1,700 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon.
Slim chance of landfall
“It is expected that it might develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours,” Clauren said, adding that the LPA is pulling in the southwest monsoon or habagat, which has been causing rainfall.
If the LPA becomes a tropical depression, it will be named “Egay,” Clauren said. However, she added that there was only “a slim chance” it will make landfall.
“The rains that we are experiencing are still due to the habagat being pulled in by the LPA,” she said. —PATRICIA DENISE M. CHIU
