Magnolia guns for its fifth consecutive victory when it faces Meralco at 5 p.m. today in Season 44 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the MVA City Coliseum in Zamboanga City.
The Hotshots (4-2 win-loss record), after a slow 0-2 start, are hoping to keep the No. 3 spot against the skidding Bolts.
Magnolia scored a lopsided 118-82 win over San Miguel Beer on Wednesday.
Import James Farr finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds against the Beermen.
Jio Jalalon almost had a triple-double of 16 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds while Marc Barroca tallied 17 points. Paul Lee had 14 points and Ian Sangalang 10 points.
“Our rhythm is good in the past few games. I hope it continues. We have a game this Saturday and we only have a two-day rest, so hopefully the players will be able to recover,” said coach Chito Victolero.
Jean Marc Pingris, who was sidelined for almost a year and a half by an anterior cruciate ligament injury, played for the Hotshots against the Beermen.
“I told him (Pingris) to take it slowly, feel the game and adjust. He didn’t play for almost one year and a half so we’re helping him,” Victolero said.
Meralco, meanwhile, will field in new import Delroy James, a replacement for Gani Lawal who is nursing a hamstring injury.
The Bolts (3-5) at No. 9, are hoping to arrest a four-game losing skid. Meralco is also hoping to bounce back from a 91-100 loss to Northern Luzon Expressway last June 19.
“Quite simply we need a win. Magnolia has been playing great basketball so we must play at a high level,” said Meralco coach Norman Black through a text message.
