Panelo says Sara qualified to run for president in 2022

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio is qualified to run for president in 2022 and may “rise to the challenge” if there will be public clamor for her to run, according to a Palace official.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo has voiced confidence in the poll chances of President Duterte’s daughter, saying she has competence, intellect, and political will.
“The father doesn’t want but if people want her to run, she might rise to the challenge,” Panelo said in an interview with reporters in Malacanang Thursday. “People will make her run just like the father,” he added.
Panelo recognized that Mayor Duterte is fit to continue to the President’s reform programs, adding she would win “overwhelmingly” if the presidential elections were held today. He said Duterte and his daughter share the same values and are “competent” government leaders.
“She has the intellectual wherewithal and the political will,” he said when asked if Sara has a chance to win the presidency.
He said if the children of former Presidents Diosdado Macapagal and Corazon Aquino eventually became President, Mayor Sara could also follow the footsteps of her father. He was referring to political scions former Presidents Gloria M. Arroyo and Benigno Aquino III.
“I launched her candidacy in Hong Kong when I said, if there was an Arroyo Macapagal with a President father at meron ding Noynoy na merong Cory, meron din sigurong Sara ang Duterte,” he said. (Genalyn Kabiling)
