PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a former professor of De La Salle University as one of the commissioners on Higher Education, a document released by Malacanang showed.

Aldrin Darilag’s appointment paper was signed by the President on June 13 but was released to media on Wednesday.

Darilag will take the post vacated by Prospero de Vera 3rd, who was promoted to chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) in October 2018.

A former associate professional lecturer at De La Salle University (DLSU) and official of St. Paul University Surigao and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, Darilag will serve as CHEd commissioner until July 21, 2020.

Darilag earned his Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Research and Development Management from DLSU.

Under the CHEd Law (Republic Act 7722), the chairman and the four commissioners have four-year terms without prejudice to one reappointment.

The other CHEd commissioners are Lillian Lagas, Ronald Adamat and Perfecto Alibin.

Meanwhile, Duterte transferred former Social Welfare officer-in-charge Virginia Orogo to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR).

Orogo, an undersecretary, replaced lawyer David Erro, who served as DAR undersecretary for policy, planning and research.

Orogo was appointed Social Welfare acting secretary in April 2018 before Duterte tapped former Philippine Army chief Rolando Bautista to head the department. CATHERINE S. VALENTE
