It was not exactly a night to remember for Trestle “Jun Minion” Tan, but the jovial 34-year old is far from discouraged.
Tan got lit up by “The Big Heart” Yoon Chang Min in one of the preliminary bouts of ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China last Saturday, 15 June.
The Vietnam-based Filipino had no answers to the power shots of the South Korean near the end of the first round, as the match was eventually stopped with less than a minute to go in the opening frame.
“The game was perfect [for me] in the opening minutes but after scrambling to the ground I felt really tired,” said Tan.
“I think there’s something wrong with my fitness conditioning [program] because two weeks ago I changed my program,” he added.
Tan further shared that he felt really good early on, and it was not until he started rolling with Yoon that he felt fatigue catching up to him.
When they eventually got back on the feet, there was nothing Tan can do as Yoon capitalized on the weary Filipino to get the stoppage win.
“The game plan was on point. The thing is, I was really confident in my boxing and ground game, but I feel gassed out after 3-4 minutes of hard battle,” said Tan.
“The loss might be a bitter pill for me to take, but I am sure that I will learn many things from it.”
As disheartening as the loss was, Tan keeps his eye on the prize as he promises that this won’t be the last time fans will hear from him.
But ultimately, it’s back to the drawing board now for him.
“I will never give up no matter what. I just need to adjust my fitness conditioning and keep training hard. I will keep doing BJJ competition after I recover,” Tan said.
“I will train almost every day to improve. I’ll take this loss as a big lesson. I’m confident that I’ll come back stronger after this.”
He was also grateful to ONE Championship for their continuous support amid his struggles, as he vows to repay the organization’s trust by winning again.
“I’m really good with ONE. I’m really happy with how they take care of me before and after my fights. I thank them so much. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed but I believe I will come back no matter what and get that win next time,” said Tan.
“I’ll take my game to the next level, and I guarantee that you will be seeing a different Trestle Tan in my next outing.”
