THE Angat dam, the primary source of water in Metro Manila, is only more than a meter away from hitting its critical low level of 160 meters, the state-run weather bureau said.
On Tuesday, Angat’s reservoir was recorded at 161.78 meters, a 0.61 meter-drop from the previous day.
Water reduction is considered to have sped up compared to only a 0.43-meter decrease from 162.82 meters on Sunday to 162.39 meters Monday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hydrologist Sonia Serrano said the dam may reach its critical low in the next few days as rainfall was still insufficient in the area.
Serrano added that based on past records, the level in Angat dam would drop in June but would go up in July when more sustained rain occurs.
The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) is considering reducing water allocation, which may lead to service interruptions in Metro Manila if Angat reaches the critical level mark.
