100 homes lost in Bacolod fire

BACOLOD CITY – More than 100 houses were destroyed in a fire that hit Purok Cagaycay, Barangay 2, this city, yesterday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that the blaze broke out at 3:30 a.m. in the coastal area of the barangay.
Most of the houses destroyed were made of light materials.
Pacita Tero, head of Department of Social Services and Development here, said 232 families were initially affected by the fire.
Tero said 80 families were temporarily sheltered at the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School II while the remaining families opted to stay at the barangay hall or with their nearby relatives.
Tero said food packs and folding beds were provided to the fire victims.
We are continuously doing revalidation on the number of houses which were razed by fire to determine the number of house owners as well, Tero said.
She said the city government will provide financial assistance of P10,000 and P5,000 to those families whose houses were destroyed and damaged by fire, respectively.
Tero said no injuries were reported.
Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire. (Glazyl Masculino)
