Residents have denounced the overcharging and other abuses being committed by some drivers of public transport tricycles in Imus, the capital city of Cavite.

Alarmed by the complaints, reelected Mayor Emmanuel Leonardo Maliksi called on the citizens to report the erring drivers to the Tricycle Regulatory Unit office at the city hall for actions.

In a Facebook post, Maliksi said that the citizens may text or call or write online to the TRU.

The complaint center was virtually activated to rid overcharging, as well as the “selective attitude,” of unscrupulous tricycle drivers, amid the opening of classes this week and the onset of the rainy season.

Overcharging or the exorbitant amount being charged by tricycle drivers and the “choosy attitude” of some in letting passengers ride due to the conveying distance have been a problem or burden to the riding citizens especially during peak hours and rainy days.

The regular tricycles or those with franchise that ply the city’s 97 barangays have official fare matrix or travel fare rates but some drivers charged double at times on a regular distance. The city’s tricycle minimum fare from within one kilometer is P9.50.

The exploitative drivers charge between P30 and P50 from passengers riding from Imus Cathedral or traffic-prone Nueno Ave. to Bayan Luma II which regular fare is only P15. (Anthony Giron)
