HANDCUFFMore than P1-million worth of suspected shabu was seized by the police from a couple and their two cohorts during a buy-bust operation yesterday in Quezon City.

Police Lt. Col. Alex Alberto, chief of the Quezon City Police District Station 3 (Talipapa), said the couple Aldemal Ali, 25, and Mercia Jamirol, 23, were nabbed near their house on Lanao St. in Salaam Compound, Barangay Culiat.

A police report revealed that the couple was behind illegal drug peddling activities in Quezon City, prompting lawmen to conduct surveillance against the duo.

Upon confirmation, personnel of the QCPD Station 3 Drug Enforcement Unit set up a buy-bust operation against the couple at about 2:35 a.m.

An undercover cop transacted with the couple who was with companions Benhar Leong, 51, and Assad Shafi, 25, also from Barangay Culiat, and purchased P10,500 worth of shabu.

After the deal, responding officers immediately nabbed the group who yielded about 164 grams of shabu amounting to more than P1.1 million, several drug paraphernalia, and the buy-bust money.

Arrested suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Alexandria San Juan)
