THE National Police Commission (Napolcom) conferred the Medalya ng Kabayanihan (Medal of Valor) on and promoted police officials and personnel who fought during the siege of Marawi City two years ago.
Based on a Napolcom en banc resolution dated April 24, the five police officials are Police Lt. Col. Rex Arvin Malimban; Police Lt. Col. Lambert Suerte; Police Lt. Col. Jack Echman Angog; Police Lt. Col. Mario Mayames; and Police Lt. Col. Ledon Monte “in recognition of their conspicuous courage and gallantry in the face of armed enemies, where they performed the most crucial role as leaders and commanders” of troops of the Special Action Force (SAF).
Robelio Casurao, Napolcom vice-chairman and executive officer, said aside from the five policemen, the Commission also approved a resolution dated May 2 confirming the special promotion of 57 police personnel as recommended by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde for their “meritorious performance” when the Islamic State-inspired Maute group, along with some members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, attacked Marawi City on May 23, 2017.
“The police contingents were able to gain ground in every target given during the offensive and the ensuing building clearing operations,” Casurao said in a statement.
“The courage displayed by these valiant police officers earned for themselves not only to the admiration of the members of the PNP but also of the people they had sworn to serve,” he added. DEMPSEY REYES
