JBC to screen 8 bets for Ombudsman for Luzon

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is set to screen the candidates for the position of Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
A notice signed by Edgar Aricheta, Clerk of Court and JBC ex-officio secretary, showed that eight bets shall vie for the post to be vacated by Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon Gerard Mosquera on June 1, 2019.
Sources said the front-runners for the position are Deputy Special Prosecutor Cornelio Somido and Ombudsman Director Beda Epres.
Somido is part of the first panel of prosecutors that investigated the plunder charges against former presi dent Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
The JBC is set to conduct a public interview on Thursday.
Also vying for the post is former Justice undersecretary Erickson Balmes, a fraternity brother of President Rodrigo Duterte and former Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre 2nd at the Lex Talionis Fraternity.
The other applicants are Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Rafael Hipolito, lawyer Eusebio Avila, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Executive Director Eduardo Bringas, and Ombudsman prosecutors Jacinto dela Cruz Jr. and Rodolfo Noel Quimbo.
