THE wreckage of a trainer aircraft that was reported missing after takeoff at the San Jose Airport last Friday has been found as the wife of its pilot asked for prayers for his rescue.
Eric Apolonio, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesman, said on Monday that the search and rescue team spotted six small and big pieces of debris from the Beechcraft Baron 55 (BE55) and a bag with the name of the pilot-in-command, Capt. Jose Nelson Yapparcon, at 12:06 p.m. in Mindoro Strait.
The CAAP said, however, that “the whereabouts of Captain Yapparcon and the student pilot, Saudi national Abdullah Alsharif was still ascertained as of now.”
CAAP said the plane’s last known position was at “16NM south of San Jose as reviewed on the radar blip.”
Lyn Garces- Yapparcon asked for prayers for her husband who, along with Alsharif, was still the subject of search and rescue operations by the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy, Coast Guard and the Orient Flying School in Pasay City.
CAAP’s aircraft accident investigation and inquiry board was immediately dispatched to the area to investigate the scene of the accident that happened at 8:30 a.m., on Friday 16 nautical miles away from the nearest town. BENJIE L. VERGARA, NIKKI DELOS REYES
