MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) will be shouldering all medical expenses of 34 injured passengers in the collision of two coaches of the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2).

“We will shoulder the medical expenses of the injured and we will provide all the necessary assistance,” LRTA Administrator Gen. Reynaldo Berroya said in a statement on Sunday.

About 30 commuters and four LRT-2 personnel who were injured were rushed to the nearest hospitals following the incident on Saturday night.

Five were still being treated at the World Citi Medical Center and Quirino Memorial Medical Center while the rest were already released.

“We apologize for this unfortunate incident and rest assured that LRTA will seriously look into it,” Berroya stressed.

Likewise, Berroya assured the public that they will immediately resume transit operations once the clearing operations and safety checks have been completed.

The LRTA administrator said a fact-finding committee has been created to probe the cause of the incident.

The collision incident, he said, is considered an “isolated case” and a “first” for the LRT-2 since it was launched in 2003. (Editor: Julie Espinosa)
