THE Commission on Elections, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), started on Tuesday its official canvassing of votes for senators and party-list groups.

The NBOC will canvass a  total of 164 certificates of canvass (COCs), including from 83 posts abroad.

Commissioner Tito Luie Guia said it would take several days to finish the canvassing, depending on the arrival of CoCs and objections from lawyers of senators and party-list groups.

Guia said that the NBOC would canvass the CoCs one by one even if the results had been known based on the unofficial results from the transparency server of the Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV).

“We need to canvass the results one by one as they come in. Even if we know the results already, we can’t proclaim [unless we finished canvassing all the CoCs],” Guia said.

As of posting time, the NBOC has canvassed the CoCs from the provinces of Ifugao, Marinduque, Ilocos Norte, Sorsogon, Southern Leyte, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte and Zambales.

Also canvassed were CoCs from the cities of Mandaluyong, Las Pinas, Lapu-lapu, Makati, Iligan, Muntinlupa, San Juan, Iloilo and Quezon City.

CoCs from Singapore, Greece, Bahrain, Qatar and Brunei Darussalam have also been canvassed.

Comebacking senator Lito Lapid is on the 13th spot with 881 votes, while reelectionist Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito is at No.14 with 789 votes.
