DESPITE the Department of Energy’s assurance, power interruptions hit parts of the Philippines on Monday, Election Day, the National Electrification Administration (NEA) said.

Power outage hit Basilan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Baselco) affecting 69 barangay (villages) in the towns of Moh Ajul, Akbar, Tipo-Tipo, Ungkayapukan, Al-Barka, Sumisip, and Tuburan, all in Basilan province, NEA said in a Facebook post.

Baselco reported a line fault that caused an outage and that restoration efforts were ongoing.

The same occurred in the franchise area of South Cotabato 2 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Socoteco 2) at 4:26 p.m. after the 69-kilovolt (kV) Alabel -Glan Sectionalizer tripped.

“Survey in the area now being conducted,” Socoteco 2 added.

Zamboanga del Sur 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Zamsurceco 1) reported a power interruption at 3:18 p.m., affecting 22 villages in Molave and Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur. Electricity was restored at 3:48 p.m.

Power outage also struck the franchise area of Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) at 12:35 p.m. when its Bacolod-Silay 69-kilovolt pole tripped.

But power supply was restored at 3:06 p.m. by temporarily connecting its Lopez and Panaogao substations to the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc.’s (Noneco) 69-kV line.

Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Sukelco) experienced the same but normal operations resumed afterwards.

The NEA said that three villages within the Antique Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Anteco) franchise area experienced power interruption in Remigio, Antique. Cause of the outage has not yet been determined.

The agency said Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ceneco) also encountered major power interruption at 12:35 p.m. when its Bacolod-Silay 69-kilovolt pole automatically tripped and that power restoration was ongoing.

Power interruption also hit Leyte 5 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Leyeco 5), affecting Barangay Cambadbad. It is still investigating the cause of the power outage and that restoration efforts are ongoing.

Meanwhile, power supply was cut off in Zamboanga City at 11 a.m. because of a broken pole. Electricity was restored at 12:08 p.m.

Back in Manila, former Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad said in a Twitter post that brownout hit Pinagbuhatan High School in Pasig City but electricity was eventually restored at 12:30 p.m.

In a response, the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said the loose circuit breaker inside the building caused the power interruption. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
