PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte and Malacanang lauded and hailed mothers as the whole world celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday.
In a video greeting, Duterte said he wished mothers a “very happy and contented life.”
“I know how it is to be a mother because I have another and I see all the pain she goes through to give her family comfort,” he said.
“Long live all mothers,” he said.
In a statement also on Sunday, Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said mothers held the highest accolade there was to bestow.
He said that “nobody, not even the fathers, can equal the tender, love and care that mothers shower their children from the time of their birth till their growing years.”
“The sacrifice the mothers make to provide [for] their sons and daughters sustenance, growth and development of their potentials is immeasurable and incomparable,” he said.
Quoting St. Therese of Liseux, Panelo said that the heart of a mother was the loveliest masterpiece of God.
“From morning until dawn, she struggles to make the child not only happy but protected from any harm, injury or illness. She toils as well for the realization of the offspring’s dream,” he said.
“For such virtues, the world should give universal recognition to these worthy women of unsurpassed selflessness, and place them into the pantheon of heroes,” he added. RALPH EDWIN VILLANUEVA
