MANILA, Philippines — Bayan Muna chair and Senate bet Neri Colmenares said the gender identity of Bar topnotcher Sean James Borja’ does not “add or subtract” to his potential as a lawyer.
“It actually DOESN’T matter if the bar topnotcher is gay or straight or lesbian or whatever his gender identity is. It doesn’t add or subtract from his capabilities as a lawyer or even as a person,” Colmenares said in a tweet on Saturday.
Colmenares said the public should just be “happy that Borja topped the bar exams.”

Borja, a graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University, bested 1,799 other 2018 Bar exam passers with a score of 89.3 percent.
In an earlier television interview, Borja said he wants to debunk the myth that members of the LGBT (lesbian, gays, bisexual, and transgender) community are only meant for entertainment.

Borja also replied to Colmenares, saying he upholds gay rights and that there are other qualities that define a human being.
“I’m a supporter of gay rights. And not a closet supporter either. From the time I was a kid, I have never been able to understand attacks upon the gay community. There are so many qualities that make up a human being,” Borja said in a tweet. /muf
Thank you Sir Neri Colmenares.
