‘Checkmate’ goes to Vegas

Seventeen year old Jet Miguel Mendoza of Tagkawayan, Quezon and 13-year old Kezia Ligutan of Muntinlupa City will banner the Team Checkmate to the forthcoming Las Vegas International Chess Festival.
Joining them are Paolo Jerome Barandon of Biñan, Laguna, John Andrei Abrantes and younger brother Santino Ezekiel of Meycauayan and Wilbert Joshua Brizuela of Parañaque City.
The event is set on June 12-16 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort Hotel in Nevada.
They will be accompanied by WNM Mila Emperado, head of the delegation along with the other officials – Jernielyn Abrantes, Ma. Blancaflor Lubas and Bernadette Brizuela.
The trip is part of the Checkmate training program which gives opportunities for deserving players to gain exposure abroad at an early age.
