DID YOU KNOW: 160th birth anniversary of educator Enrique Mendiola

Today, May 3, is the 160th birth anniversary of educator Enrique Mendiola. Born in San Miguel, Manila, in 1859, he was a pioneer in character education. Mendiola received his licentiate in law in 1866 from the University of Santo Tomas. He devoted his time to teaching and built his own school in Santa Cruz, Manila. Mendiola died on March 30, 1914 and a street going to Malacañang was named in his honor. —Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
