A manhunt operation against dismissed policeman Eduardo Acierto is ongoing after a Manila court ordered his arrest and seven others over the alleged smuggling of P11-billion worth of “shabu” last year, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde announced on Thursday.

Albayalde told reporters in an ambush interview that tracker teams were sent to the Acierto’s possible hiding areas.

“Right now, we already went to the places where he could possibly be. We have tracker teams created from the CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. It’s not just him but also the [seven others] who were issued with a warrant of arrest,” he said in Filipino.

The seven other individuals whose arrest were ordered were former Customs intelligence officer Jimmy Guban and former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) deputy director for administration Ismael Fajardo; importers Chan Yee Wah alias KC Chan and Zhou Quan alias Zhang Quan; consignees Vedasto Cabral Baraquel Jr. and Maria Lagrimas Catipan of Vecaba Trading and Emily Luquingan.

Guban is the only individual included in the arrest warrant currently under the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Albayalde expressed belief that Acierto was still in the country and may be located soon.

He also said that the license of the dismissed policeman’s firearms would be cancelled.

“We believe that he is still here and yes, we will do everything…We will see also the cancellation of his licensed firearms since [facing charges is] a ground for cancellation of LTOP (License To Own and Possess Firearm),” Albayalde said.

The PNP and NBI received the copy of the warrant last week.

Acierto was accused of helping in the smuggling of P11-billion worth of shabu that was hidden in two abandoned magnetic lifters that were seized at the Port of Manila in August 2018.

Four other magnetic lifters were discovered at a warehouse in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite.

After months of hiding, Acierto resurfaced in March and claimed that former presidential economic adviser Michael Yang had ties with drug syndicates.

The Palace denied Acierto’s claim and President Rodrigo Duterte slammed him in a public event, asking “why he was still alive.” ROY NARRA
