Hope of getting any survivors from the collapsed supermarket in Porac, Pampanga is getting dim as authorities said yesterday search and rescue experts are no longer monitoring any signs of life from the debris of the four-story building.
Edgar Posadas, spokesman of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said life detectors and the dogs being used in the rescue operations were no longer responding in the areas where people are believed buried.
But Posadas said all the search and rescue teams remain optimistic that they would be able to save the 14 people who remain missing based on the list of local authorities.
“If we are to rely on technology, the life detectors are no longer detecting signs of life. But technology has its own pitfalls so we are not giving up,” said Posadas.
“We Pinoys would always say never say die. We just don’t give up whatever the result of this,” he added.
35Posadas said their decision to go on with the search and rescue was buoyed by questions on how one would feel if any of their family member is missing and is believed to be under the pile of debris. (Aaron Recuenco)
