THE Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Board has penalized the Manila Water Company, Inc. more than P1 billion for the water shortage its consumers experienced in the early part of 2019.
The amount is broken down into a
P534.050-million fine and P600 million for the development of a new water supply source for the affected areas, the MWSS said in a statement on Wednesday.
The MWSS said its board unanimously approved the recommendation of the MWSS Regulatory Office on the imposition of appropriate penalties on Manila Water relative to its failure to comply with Article 10.4 of the concession agreement.
The Resolution was signed by Board Chairman Franklin Demonteverde, Vice Chairman and MWSS Administrator Reynaldo Velasco together with members Melchior I. Acosta Jr, Mariano C. Alegarbes, Merly M. Cruz, Jose R. Hernandez, Valeriano F. Pasquil, Melanie Sia-Lambino and Elpidio J. Vega.
In a statement, Manila Water President Ferdinand M. dela Cruz said he would abide by the decision of the MWSS.
