PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde has ordered the technical inspection and assessment of all police buildings in Metro Manila and Region 3 after a 6.1 earthquake struck on Monday.
Albayalde told Brig. Gen. Elmer Cabreros, director of the PNP Engineering Service, to check for “damages to determine their structural integrity, safety, and fitness for use by PNP personnel and the public availing of police services.”
He also told officials to look after the physical security of all detention cells to make sure that no suspects under custody would use the situation to escape.
Brig. Gen. Joel Napoleon Coronel, Central Luzon regional director, has activated the disaster incident management task group and deployed mobile force personnel for search, rescue, and clearing operations.
Albayalde is also set to inspect the heavily damaged Clark Airport and Chuzon Supermarket in Porac, Pampanga, later in the day.
The earthquake’s epicenter was 18 kilometers northeast of Castillejos, Zambales and was felt in various parts of Luzon.
