A magnitude 4.7 earthquake was recorded in Batangas before midnight on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake was 15 kilometers southwest of Calatagan at 11:38 p.m. after the strong magnitude 6.1 quake in Castillejos, Zambales that also jolted Central Luzon and Metro Manila.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 146 kilometers.
No damage was reported and aftershocks were not expected.
Phivolcs Research Seismology Research Assistant John Paul Fallar said it was a completely separate faultline movement from the quake in Zambales. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
